Flint Mine Hill ...Good article; an important site.
Flint Mine Hill and West Athens Hill (not far away) were like cathedrals to ancestral Mohicans and Haudenosaunee. As the author notes, there is evidence there of Paleoindian use c. 12,000 year ago. I've taken students there several times and at least once we found "flute flakes," debitage from primary reduction to make a fluted point. Very exciting stuff. When you go there, if you allow your mind to wander a bit and the nearby farmers are not making a racket, you can feel a sense of great antiquity.
TomLakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05220700895731771482noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2925277268651697833.post-65492244852206219132019-08-07T15:00:02.005-04:002019-08-07T15:00:02.005-04:00I grew up there. My mother Evelyn (Barus) Cameron used to say that when her father plowed the flat fields, she would follow him and pick up boxes of arrowheads. When I was a young man, I also found some in the fields. Ken CameronAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
